Jeanette Reinhart

Former Head Cook

Jeanette has been elemental to YBRA operations for decades. Having grown up in Roberts, Montana, she first started in 1972, working in a kitchen staff role when Barbara Parks was the Head Cook. She moved into a regular season role at camp in 1980 and formally took over kitchen operations as Head Cook from Joyce Neibauer in 1985. Over her years, she fostered an authentic sense of family within the staff community, helping the YBRA grow as camp participation numbers bloomed, and was a constant and welcoming ambassador for faculty as they made their annual return to the YBRA each summer for the field season. Her mainstay was family-style meals, a tradition that was born from the era when teaching faculty traveled to the YBRA for the full summers with their full families. She lives about an hour from camp on a ranch with her husband Tony where she raised her son Shawn and now enjoys helping to raise her grandchildren. Though formally retired, Jeanette will often travel to camp for periods of the summer to train new staff or support kitchen operations as needed, while also checking in on the mountain’s hummingbird population that she’s nurtured.

In 2005 she received the YBRA Dutcher Award for exceptional service to the organization. In 2017 the Reinhart Lounge addition to the historic Fanshawe Lodge was named in her honor. 2020 formally marked her 40th anniversary with the camp. You can read reflections from Jeanette about her years at the YBRA in the 2021 Uplift.
